Membranes for Pressure Compensation Elements

Efficient venting of vehicle components

Reliable function over a long life cycle is what you want from any component, regardless of its application.

This is countered by a variety of factors such as contamination, leakage, defective components or changes in internal pressure.
Pressure changes in the housing caused by temperature fluctuations or height differences can lead to deformation of the housing or damage the seals and cause leaks.

Our membranes for pressure compensation elements are made of expanded PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) which, thanks to its unique open-pored structure, ensures the necessary pressure compensation of the housing and at the same time prevents the penetration of dirt, dust, water and liquids. In this way, you can ensure the flawless functioning of your components over a long life cycle.

Our Know How

As a membrane manufacturer, we accompany you right from the development stage of your pressure compensation element. Be it the choice of the right membrane in terms of air permeability, water entry pressure or carrier material, or the calculation of the membrane area required for constant pressure compensation.
Together we will find the right solution for your specific application.

Advantages of ePTFE membranes for Automotive Vents
  • Allow pressure compensation
  • Barrier against environmental influences
  • Chemically inert
  • High air permeability
  • High water entry pressure
  • Hydrophobic
  • Can be finished oleophobic
Example application: Temperature change in electronic components

A concrete application for the necessary ventilation in automotive engineering is the heating of electronic components during vehicle operation.

The diagram shows an example of a temperature change from -40 °C to + 80 °C and the pressure increase or pressure curve that occurs in the housing. By using a pressure compensation element with the required air permeability and membrane surface, a pressure increase that is not critical for the component and subsequent complete pressure compensation is achieved. The housing is not damaged by the temperature rise and is also protected from harmful environmental influences.
